Business Partner Search for a Contract Manufacturer of Consumer Electrical Products

The Client. The Client is an Asian manufacturer of a range of consumer electrical appliances.

Business and Market Scenario. The Client intended to outsource manufacturing its low-end range of consumer electrical appliances. Though there was a mass market for such low-end products, profit margins were small. The Client was in the opinion that outsourcing  its low-end products to contract manufacturers would free its resources to manufacture high-end products that brought better profit margins.

Business Challenge. The Client engaged Pegasus to search and recommend suitable contract manufacturers with the resources and technical capabilities to manufacture the Client's low-end products. The recommended manufacturers had to be based either in Malaysia or Singapore for strategic reasons.

Approach and Methodology. Potential contract manufacturers in Malaysia and Singapore were initially identified from directories and other public sources. Pegasus researched the companies and ranked them in order of preference based on financial and business criteria established by the Client.



















































Findings.  Only one manufacturer in Singapore and three manufacturers in Malaysia were pre-selected. None of the four potential manufacturers met all the criteria established by the Client.

Solution. The four manufacturers were ranked in order of preference giving reasons. The manufacturer with the "best fit" or ranked with the highest potential for contract manufacturing was recommended to the Client.
